Laser action in strongly scattering rare-earth-metal-doped dielectric nanophosphors

چکیده
We report continuous-wave laser action in two oxide nanopowders doped with Ce and Pr ions. To our knowledge, these are the first observations of stimulated emission from electrically pumped random media in which scattering and distributed feedback scale lengths are much shorter than a wavelength. The continuous nature of the laser emission in small volumes ~on the order of a cubic wavelength! of these low gain systems, and the absence of coherent speckle, provide compelling evidence that these results are mediated by strong Anderson localization of light.

Combined Optical and MR Bioimaging Using Rare Earth Ion Doped NaYF4 Nanocrystals
Here, novel nanoprobes for combined optical and magnetic resonance (MR) bioimaging are reported. Fluoride (NaYF4) nanocrystals (20–30 nm size) codoped with the rare earth ions Gd and Er/Yb/Eu are synthesized and dispersed in water. An efficient upand downconverted photoluminescence from the rare-earth ions (Er and Yb or Eu) doped into fluoride nanomatrix allows optical imaging modality for the ...
متن کاملAn Analytical Model for Rare Earth Doped Fiber Lasers Consisting of High Reflectivity Mirrors
The present article is concerned with an analytical solution for some parts of rare earth doped fiber laser equations. The presented model is valid for both four and three-level fiber lasers consisting high reflectivity mirrors. A typical method to obtain initial value in the numerical solutions of fiber laser equations is shooting method, which is based on an iteration process. Whereas this st...
متن کاملHydrothermal synthesis and photoluminescence properties of rare-earth niobate and tantalate nanophosphors.
Rare-earth niobate and tantalate materials are of considerable interest for use as phosphors, photocatalysts and ionic conductors. We successfully synthesized Ln3MO7 (Ln = Y, Ce, Er, Ho, Tm, Yb and Lu, M = Ta, Nb) nanophosphors by a hydrothermal method using the water-soluble Lindqvist ion polyoxometalates [HNb6O19](7-) and [Ta6O19](8-) as Nb and Ta sources. The Pawley refinements of these nano...
متن کاملErbium-doped nanoparticles in silica-based optical fibres
Developing of new rare-earth (RE)-doped optical fibres for power amplifiers and lasers requires continuous improvements in the fibre spectroscopic properties (like shape and width of the gain curve, optical quantum efficiency, resistance to spectral hole burning and photodarkening,...). Silica glass as a host material for fibres has proved to be very attractive. However some potential applicati...
متن کاملErbium emission properties in nanostructured fibers.
A new route was recently proposed to modify some spectroscopic properties of rare-earth ions in silica-based fibers. We had shown the incorporation of erbium ions in amorphous dielectric nanoparticles, grown in fiber preforms. Here we present the achieved stabilization of nanometric erbium-doped dielectric nanoparticles within the core of silica fibers. We present the nanoparticle dimensional c...
